All walks are on Monday meeting on site at 6.45 for 7pm start.

 

 

MONDAY MAY 12TH

 

CUMBERLAND BASIN AND UNDERFALL YARD

Leaders: ROY GALLOP AND KEN GRIFFITHS- local historians and publishers

 

6.45 Meet at the small car park opposite the Nova Scotia public house, Cumberland Basin.  To view some of Brunel’s works and learn about the development of Bristol’s once very important docks.

 

Parking very easy in the area.

MONDAY JUNE 9TH

 

A WALK AROUND FISHPONDS

Leader: JOHN BARTLETT local historian, author and chairman of the Fishponds Local History Society

 

6.45 Meet at the car park in Beechwood Road between the Health Centre and Social Centre- A chance to find where the fishponds were and to see the old prison and workhouse.

MONDAY JULY 14TH

 

CHIPPING SODBURY

Leader:  JIM ELSWORTH- local historian

 

6.45 Meet at the clock tower in High Street.  Find out more about the fascinating history of one of Bristol’s largest and oldest dormitory towns. 

 

Parking should be quite easy in and around the main street.

 

Charge £2.50 to include tea and biscuits

 

MONDAY AUGUST 11TH

 

PENSFORD

Leader: COLIN BUDGE- local historian and researcher into the history of North Somerset

 

6.45 Meet at the Pensford Memorial Hall.

Directions- Coming from Bristol on the A37, turn left immediately after the bridge, into High Street.  Bear left at the domed lock-up towards Publow and the hall is about 200 yards up, on the left with good parking.

A wander around the village best known for its association with Acker Bilk, but with a long history of industry not only with its coal mines, but also with various mills along the River Chew.
